The Chanel spring 2014 couture collection was one of the most unexpected lines we've seen at this Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week edition. For most designers, couture collections are an opportunity to up the ante and unveil sophisticated creations with a unique twist. But, as we all know, Karl Lagerfeld isn't part of the 'most designers' category. For the spring 2014 Chanel couture line, he didn't think about black tie events. Instead, he explored the idea of “a futuristic nightclub” and brought many interesting looks with an cool youthful spin.
The chic Chanel spring 2014 couture line had a distinguishable sporty vibe and featured many simple and relatively understated options with an interesting youthful twist. Though towering high heels have long been thought of as the go to staple anytime a sultry look was desired, the couturier came with a completely different proposition this time and put trainers into the spotlight. Of course, the trainers weren't the typical shoes one might pick up to go for a run. They were embellished, had tweed and lace-like details and were perfectly matched to the outfits the fashion house has put forward.

The focus on functionality seems to have been reflected on all the new Chanel spring 2014 couture designs. The label has opted for simple shapes and languid dresses for the new line and often brought fab monochrome ensembles. The futuristic approach was spotted mostly on a tailoring level, where geometric details dominated and strong contrast between proportions were used to make the new looks stand out. The glammed-up sporty looks also had a feminine component thanks to delicate lace accents, intricate embellishments and a well defined color palette that revolved mostly around sweet pastel tones.
