The Kate Moss for Alexander McQueen spring 2014 campaign is one of the most surprising ad campaigns we've seen so far. The new set of ads isn't the typical display of glamorous poses and languorous looks. Quite the contrary: the concept for the new campaign has a much darker source of inspiration: serial killers. According to the fashion house, the ads “capture the iconic British model as an otherworldly woman in a darkly surreal environment”.
The Kate Moss for Alexander McQueen spring/summer 2014 ads, shot by Steven Klein, are said to incorporate "voyeuristic elements of the 1960s British thriller Peeping Tom". For those unfamiliar with the movie concept, the plot of the movie is built around a man who kills women and films their dying expressions. To amp up the eerie vibe of the ads the model, who recently turned 40, carries a doll replica of herself and in one of the shots the doll actually has needles in her head and chest. Moreover, her unnatural blond dyed short crop makes her resemble Tilda Swinton.
All the looks from the new Alexander McQueen spring 2014 campaign are unapologetically bold, which should come as no surprise given the fact that the label's spring 2014 collection was inspired by warriors. Between pleated leather skirts, cool vests, stunning sandals, cool handbags and daring jewelry pieces, it is definitely hard to choose the most striking pieces from the new campaign, but perhaps this is exactly why the campaign is so memorable.
