The BCGB Max Azria spring 2014 collection marks a special moment in the history of the label. Next year, the brand will celebrate its 25th anniversary, so the designers consulted the archives to see which of the pieces are still relevant today and got inspired to create fashion items that beautifully reflect the brand's aesthetic DNA. The new line was carefully analyzed from the front row by socialites Heidi Klum, Estelle, Selita Ebanks and Olivia Palermo.
BCGB Max Azria's spring 2014 collection brought relaxed silhouettes, many utilitarian pieces with a masculine flair and occasional bohemian influences. Still, regardless of the influences behind a particular outfit, the style perspective was clear: easy to wear and effortlessly chic designs were the label's focus. There were a lot of boxy shapes, especially in the first half of the collection and it seemed that the focus was placed on versatility from a chromatic standpoint, with only a few animal prints to bring a subtle contrast.
As the show progressed however, things took a feminine turn. The declared intention for the new BCBG Max Azria SS 2014 line was “to make women feel pretty”, so the line included plenty of lightweight fabrics such as chiffon and silk and plenty of gorgeous watercolor floral prints. There were certain sexy accents such as deep V necklines or strategic sheer accents, but overall, the focus was on an elegant, ladylike allure instead of overly bold, sexy accents that could easily prove out of many women's comfort zone.
