It's confirmed! George Clooney is engaged to Amal Alamuddin, the British lawyer who he's been dating since last October. Rumors first emerged last Thursday when the couple dined at Nobu and Alamuddin sported an impressive ring that had all the characteristics of an engagement ring. Not long after the rumor surfaced, a source disclosed the happy news to People.com stating: "George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem. I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever."

Clooney's rep declined to comment on the news, so the official confirmation only came later, when a statement was made by the company where his fiancée works, congratulating the pair for their decision: 

"The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married."

Later on, Nick Clooney, George's dad confirmed the news for TMZ.com, showing his support for the decision: "We are thrilled ... my wife and I are absolutely thrilled ... we are excited for both of them. Amal is a very lovely girl."
