The Bouchra Jarrar fall 2013 couture collection was neither a nostalgic reinterpretation of past eras nor an overly dramatic display of sartorial futurism. Instead, the designer channeled a modern, youthful feel and fully adhered to the concept that couture pieces should focus on meeting practical needs rather than being a simple aesthetic statement which is a glimpse into a designer's understanding of abstract artistic concepts. In fact, looking back at the label's spring 2013 couture lineup, it's obvious that the concept is not really new to the designer, however, the stringent need for couture creations to have greater commercial appeal was more clearly expressed by the industry at this edition of the Couture Fashion Week.
From the moment the first outfit from the Bouchra Jarrar fall 2013 couture collection was revealed, it was obvious that the goal was to bring head turning ensembles that perfectly balance feminine and masculine accents. The search for the perfect pair of trousers was fine tuned once again. Why the obsession? “It's my signature. I just think a woman looks most elegant in trousers." The promising designer than went on to explain how the idea is reflected in the new line:"I made the masculine-feminine-tailoring pantsuits for day more exaggerated, because that's my idea of modern couture." She chose an urban edge with a refined allure for most of the looks from the new line. The combos were clean, simple and relatively intuitive.
The edgy accents of the new Bouchra Jarrar couture fall 2013 collection were very well defined: metallic chains, bold leather pants, lust-worthy jackets, modern biker vests with bold zippers and military influences, bold belts. Simple yet definitely not minimalistic, the looks were defined by a hefty dose of sex appeal. After an impeccable set of daring polished day ensembles defined by exceptionally cut modern pieces, the designer focused her attention on evening-wear.
Though they were only a small part of the new Bourchra Jarrar couture collection for fall 2013, the evening-wear pieces revealed showed the softer side of the designer's creations: minimalistic flowy asymmetric dresses in soft neutral tones with occasional black accents or embellished evening vests completed the promising designer's amazing line. Once again, she proved that she's a force to be reckoned with.
